We have marked this issue as solved based on the following: 1-Death notice list Marie Susan as Mrs. Briles 2-Her marker is identical to Oliver D. Briles and is in the same plot. Her marker says "wife" and his says "husband". 3-They are the only two in the cemetery that are Briles. 4-Oliver Briles was married to Bessie Berry but the 1930 census lists him living with his parents and listed as single.
Based on this information, we believe she is the spouse of Oliver Briles.
Services for Marie Susan (Aunt Marie) Briles, 103, of Redding, will be at 1 p.m. today, April 4, 2006 at the Allen and Dahl Chapel in Palo Cedro. Burial will be at the Halcomb Cemetery in Montgomery Creek. She died of natural causes at her residence in Redding. She moved to Shasta County in 1918 from Quincy. Mrs. Briles was a custodian at Mountain Union School in Round Mountain and a member of the Montgomery Grante for 53 years and its treasurer for 44 years. She is survived by nephews and nieces. Memorial contributions may be made to the Round Mountain Community Center, Highway 299, Round Mountain.
